I posted this in a couple of other forums but have yet to get any response. I hope I can find some help here.
I am relatively new to the FI part of LE. Most of my instructor experience has been teaching cops how to rappel and climb. I am a cross dominant shooter (left long gun/right handgun). I have a very dominant left eye. When moving into a corner and transitioning from left to right on the long gun, I have a difficult time picking up my sight. Close in targets are not a problem as point shooting has works well for me. Longer range stuff is an obvious issue. My question is, how do you guys cope with this problem, and are there any exercises that you suggest to strengthen my right eye. It's not that I can't find the sight, its just that it takes what I consider an unacceptable amount of time to focus. I know I cannot be the only one to run into this issue, and Id like to know how to help the others that I will most likely encounter in my new position. Thanks in advance for your help. Dear In2Deep,
First of all, you need to come to our instructor development course which covers this issue in great detail. (The date will be announced within a few weeks and it will be in the second half of 2003.) Secondly, shoulder-fired weapons cannot be fired using a cross dominant technique. Handguns, however, can be. Your head only has to move the distance between the two pupils, which is not a great distance. Mahalo! brett@internationaltactical.com |
