Brett: I remember that Scott was mentioning something about low ready being preferable as a "guard" than retention position for threat assessment. Could you please comment as to the reasoning behind that? Thank you.

Dear Dave,
Low ready places the weapon in the direction of the threat. It is an assessment and search position. If one needs to it is a simple matter to bring the weapon in a straight line onto the threat area. The fastest distance between two points is a straight line. Simplicity wins out. Weapon retention is an altogether different technique employed when low ready is not practicable.
