I just received a phone call from a police trainer from a small department on the east coast. He had read the article in SWAT magazine and had called to do some "brainstorming"! I was a little taken aback because he wanted us to give him very specific information on techniques that we use.
How does one, on the phone, or by email, explain a "technique"? You have to see it for yourself and do it several times, with corrections, in order for it to be effective. Can you imagine the liability of a trainer who heard about a technique on the phone and then was using it to teach other officers? How do we correct for his mistakes? When I explained that to him, he was very curt and hung up on me. To all of you reading this, don't take instruction from ANYONE who has not learned it firsthand. Reading about something or hearing about it just doesn't cut it. On this same note, we have gotten many requests in the last few weeks from other firearms instructors to come and "hang" out with Scott and watch him teach Metro!! Scott teaches classes for ITTS off duty and this is not related to his primary position at Metro. Thus any training has to be done through ITTS. Thank you. brett@internationaltactical.com [This message was edited by Brett on March 10, 2003 at 12:50 PM.] |
