One instructor is advocating using a kneeling position to direct the trajectory of the bullet upward (for use in taking a shot in a house if family is present, apparently, so a stray will not hit the no shoot).

Is there any merit to this? Aside from not being able to move, are there any problems with this that I am missing?

Thank you.

Dave,

No, there is nothing wrong with the technique, when used for it was designed for. If you have a hostage situation and your back drop is full of people, yes dropping to a knee and taking the shot, angling it upword, is ONE possible technique. At least this way, if you have no other choice but to take the shot, at least your thinking about not hitting innocent bystanders.

Just food for thought...

Hi Dave. First off: IF YOU HIT YOUR TARGET, THERE IS NO “STRAY”! Smile If your concern is over-penetration, then perhaps the angle could make a difference, but then there is the possibility of deflection as well. Having said that, unless your target is extremely close or your literally shooting upstairs, I don't believe that the trajectory would be sufficiently upwards to make that much of a difference. Is this a two-story house or a building with several floors? If so, a flat shot may be safer to take. IMHO, I don’t believe that the slight inclination would make a difference as far as bystanders go. Other then that, kneeling will make you a smaller target (excellent for use behind cover) and a more stable platform as well. And your right, there is a loss of mobility. But if that’s the only shot you’ve got, and you have to take it, do what you got to do. Scott or Brett?
