Brett, I realize this forum is designed to support International Tactical's training programs. I hope I am not being presumptious in straying from your mission. Of course, being a native of Rhode Island, diplomacy is seldom my strong suit.

That said, I'm wondering about the origin of the "Metropolitan Division". Back here on the right coast, Metro would probably be called Special Operations. In the DC area, Metro cops are the transit police. Any insightinto the unit's name?

Thanks and be safe. Feel free to delete if necessary.

Dear jnc36,

First of all, a little known fact; Scott used to live in Rhode Island!

Secondly, this forum is for whatever anyone wants to talk about. All subjects are open for discussion. (Well, almost all topics).

Thirdly, the answer to your question. Metropolitan Division, AKA "Metro", is an elite division of the LAPD. All officers must be P-3 training officers with at least five years field experience in order to apply. The officers must have expertise in various areas of police work, must pass a PFQ, stress oral and have a background check. Metro was established in 1941 and has evolved into a specialized unit that covers the following areas: all VIP dignitary protection details, witness protection, bank stake outs, serial killings, riot control, unusual tactical response scenarios, high risk crime suppression along with high risk warrant services and provides excelerated in-service training for the rest of the LAPD. It is a well-historied unit and is comprised of the best that LAPD has to offer. Metro is a highly-desired position and is very selective in its members. At present Metro fields two sixty man field platoons, one sixty man SWAT platoon, an eighteen man canine unit and 24 mounted police. Metro officers additionally staff their own communications and operational services.

Scott has been a member of Metro for over 22 years. He is also their primary firearms instructor.

Thanks, Brett. It's good to see another former Ocean Stater doing good work. Be safe.
