Day One
I won't go into a detailed blow by blow, but we had a great day. We started off with a hostage taker cold drill on a new prop that Scott built. The man has some real ingenuity. The majority of the drills were shot from in and around vehicles on steel. We shot a square range skills test in the afternoon also from vehicles. I've never done that before and it proved to be a lot of fun. Driving from yardage to yardage sure beats walking. LOL. We wrapped up the day shooting a skills test firing side only and then again support side only out to 25 yards. I have taken this series of class before and what I immediately noticed about today's evolutions was that Scott has modified the curriculum substantially and has made some major improvements to his facilities including a very large shoot house that is still being constructed. We covered a lot of new things that hadn't been included in previous evolutions and I was thrilled about that. The weather was perfect and the shooters in attendance are very competent. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Day Two Today the class size increased with 11 LEOs joining us for a full day of shooting. We started off with square range drills on paper and then progressed to man on man on steel. The steel drills consisted of pepper poppers, hostage heads, and targets with 6" swinging gates. Even though the class size increased the pace was quick and Scott kept thing moving along. The afternoon session consisted of the high speed mover, knife attack, and close contact emergency shooting. For the knife attack problem we fired pairs from 21 feet from low ready and then again from the holster. For many this was their first experience with the knife attack system and proved to be a wake up call for many. Tomorrow's curriculum will be a night shoot from 3 - 10 PM. Day Three A few high lights from the night shoot. We warmed up with square range evolutions that focused on one handed shooting, reloading, and malfunction clearances. Once everyone was grooved in we applied those skills on the high speed mover. These drills include one handed shooting and reloading. The mover would come across and the shooters would engage it with two rounds, perform a one handed ER and then reengage the mover as it reversed direction. Lots of fun. We worked a few shooter down rescues using two, two man cars. The two cars would approach the downed shooter running parallel to each other. The blocking vehicle (closest to down range) would lay down fire as the extraction team recovered the downed shooter. Once the downed shooter was secured in the extraction vehicle both teams would leave the area post haste. The night shoot included a donga trail, knife attack, and high speed mover. Over all, the weekend proved to be fun and very educational. We were put through dozens of problem solving scenarios. Far too many to put down here. The round round was around 650 - 700 for the weekend. We got in a lot of quality shooting. Scott Reitz/ITTS should be on any serious shooters short list for reality based training. He really has some great stuff. |
