This was a one day advanced level class that dealt with the use of deadly force and decision making. The focus of this class was to identify and engage the threat while making split second decisions based on visual cues rather than an audible start signal.

After a brief warm up on paper targets, the firing drills where initiated with a number of different visual cues. The cues would designate the targets and firing sequence. Combine that with the pressure of a man on man format and things go sideways in a heart beat.

The tendency is to rush the shot to beat your class mate. We could only fire a predetermined number of rounds per drill so that reinforced the need for fast accurate shooting. The mornings drills were shot on steel. Pepper poppers, Hostage takers and steel silhouettes with a 6" swing out plate at the COM., and a swing out "T" representing the eyes and nose of the head.

During the morning session we were broke off to shoot an outdoor simulator on paper targets set up in the Donga, which BTW is Swahili for arroyo.

The afternoon session consisted of two man team drills, the high speed mover, and other challenging shooting problems. The final drill of the day was shot on the mover. A number of different photographic targets would appear and then disappear from behind cover at the same time. The targets exposure was around 1.5 - 2.0 seconds. You had to identify and engage the shoot target before it disappeared behind cover. This drill took it's toll on many of the students.

The split second decision making combined with the high speed firing drills made this a unique, challenging, and enjoyable day.
